New Delhi, Mar 10 (ANI): The Congress party has attacked political rivals over the killing of a IPS officer in Madhya Pradesh and violence by Samajwadi Party activists in Uttar Pradesh.Demanding a strict probe into Narendra Kumar Singh's killing, who was mowed down by a tractor-trolley in Madhya Pradesh's Morena District, Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari stressed that it was political patronage to the mining mafia that had led to the incident."The Madhya Pradesh government appears to be standing on the side of those who have been the perpetrators of illegal mining. This is evidenced by the fact that, without state patronage, criminal elements would not have ever mustered up the gumption to kill and murder an IPS officer of the state cadre. We demand that this matter should be probed very deeply and minutely and the killers of late Shri Narendra Kumar be brought to justice," Tiwari said.
Meanwhile, reflecting on the recent spiral of violence in Uttar Pradesh, Tiwari asserted the incidents were part of the SP leadership's political vendetta, a trend that had no place in a democratic setup.
"The cycle of violence, which unfortunately succeeds electoral cycles, is both reprehensible and needs to be condemned. In a democracy, vendetta should have no place. We do hope that the new government in Lucknow would act and act with haste to see that law and order in the state is maintained and political victimisation or political vendetta is immediately brought to a halt," he added.
Dismissing speculations that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance had been greatly weakened due to the poll drubbing, Tiwari said that the central government was string and stable.
"Our performance has not been up to our expectations. I do not think unnecessary extrapolation is essential. The UPA government at the centre is strong. It is stable. It has been given a mandate to govern for five years. The UPA government would complete its term," he added.
He further urges opposition parties to cooperate with the government and refrain from obstructing the upcoming budget session of the parliament.
"With the budget session starting on Monday, we do hope that the Opposition, across the political spectrum, lends constructive support to the government, in its endeavour to see that the life of the people of India is bettered in every possible way," he said. (ANI)
