Broad backs 'out of favour' team-mate Morgan to fire in Indian Premier League

London, Tue, 06 Mar 2012 ANI

London, Mar 6(ANI): England fast bowler Stuart Broad has reckoned that his team-mate Eoin Morgan can overcome a rough patch by playing in the Indian Premier League

"The IPL is a tricky one for him, but a contract is a contract - if you are signed, you can't pull out. And Twenty20 could be what Morgs needs. Go out there and smash the ball.In first class cricket you can be thinking about your foot position, you stance, your back lift and trigger movement," The Sun quoted Broad, as saying.

"But sometimes you need to plant your foot and whack it.Cricket is a weird thing - you can be dropped for form but if you respond with wickets or big runs, you can't be ignored," he added.

His statement came after Morgan was axed for the squad for the Sri Lanka series.

Broad will also head to the IPL to fulfil his 250,000 pound deal with Kings XI Punjab, before returning on May 5 ahead of the series with West Indies.

As captain of England's Twenty20 side, he intends to harvest as much tactical knowledge as possible in the tournament.

"When Colly was England captain he came back from the IPL with some really good ideas that helped us become World Twenty20 champions in 2010.With us defending that trophy this autumn, I need to go to the IPL with an open mind and absorb as much information as I can," he said

"I'm not a fan of a two-Test series, like I'm not a fan of South Africa being a three-Test series this summer. We were told a few years ago that it could be a five-Test series. It will be No1 and No2 in the world against each other, but suddenly it's three and it's a shame because that could be an unbelievable series cricket-wise," he added.(ANI)
