Pakistan says aggression against Iran will result in 'disastrous consequences' for whole region

Multan, Tue, 06 Mar 2012 ANI

Multan, Mar 6 (ANI): Pakistan's Foreign Minister, Hina Rabbani Khar, has warned that any kind of aggression against Iran would have 'disastrous consequences' for the whole region.

Insisting that Pakistan would not support any military intervention in the region, Khar said: "This region cannot afford further aggressions."

Khar also rejected US pressure for scrapping the proposed gas pipeline with Iran, and said that Islamabad would go ahead with the project, The Express Tribune reports.

Last week, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had warned Pakistan, saying that the project could attract US sanctions.

"The proposed Pakistan-Iran pipeline, if built, could raise serious concerns under the Iran Sanctions Act. We have made that absolutely clear. We have raised this issue with the Government of Pakistan," she told a Congressional hearing.

Khar, however, rejected Washington's opposition, saying the project offered a quick solution to Pakistan's deepening energy crisis.

She said that Islamabad would also pursue the Turkmenistan-Pakistan-Afghanistan-India (TAPI) pipeline after the Iran project was completed. (ANI)
