Lucknow, Mar 6 (ANI): Samajwadi Party leader and son of party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday thanked the people of Uttar Pradesh for voting in favour of Samajwadi Party.

"I would like to thank the people of Uttar Pradesh for voting in favour of Samajwadi Party. And reposing their trust on Samajwadi Party," said Yadav.

He further said that the people of Uttar Pradesh rose above the lines of caste and religion to vote for the party.

"People rose above the lines of caste and religion to vote for the Samajwadi Party and because of this we are going to get majority in UP. For this I would like to thank the people of all castes and religions in Uttar Pradesh on behalf of the party," he added.

On being asked who will be chosen by the party as the chief minister, Yadav replied that the whole party wanted Mulayam Singh Yadav to become the chief minister.

Yadav said that the promises made in the manifesto will be immediately taken up for implementation.

He also added that the parks and statues built during the Mayawati regime won't be razed as the vacant space around it would be used to build social institutions like hospitals.

"We won't raze the statues of Mayawati. Mulayam Singh ji has said that there is sufficient vacant space around it to build a social institution like a hospital," added Yadav.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) is moving towards a majority in Uttar Pradesh and is likely to form the next government in the state.

As per the latest trends, SP is leading in close to 200 seats. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will remain second despite a loss of over 100 seats in comparison to the 206 it got in 2007.

The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party are fighting for third and fourth place. (ANI)
