Washington, Mar 5(ANI): Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney is now eyeing the Ohio caucus after winning in Michigan, Arizona and Washington in the White House election race.
Romney attended an event in Toledo, Ohio just hours after he warded off a potentially devastating defeat in his native Michigan.
But he is expected to struggle in western caucus states like Idaho and North Dakota, where Ron Paul may do well, and faces an uphill climb in the south, The New York Daily News reports.
Former House speaker Newt Gingrich is expected to roll in his home state of Georgia, while the ex-Speaker and Santorum are expected to duke it out in Tennessee and Oklahoma.
US President Barack Obama's supporters are also banking on Ohio, with his super political action committee is blanketing the state with advertisements.
The move comes in the wake of a new Gallup poll showing Obama trailing Romney, 50 percent to 46 percent, and narrowly edging Santorum, 49 percent to 48 percent.
Political analysts have rated Ohio as one of the most crucial general election battlegrounds, and added that a candidate who wins the GOP nomination without capturing the Buckeye State is unlikely to inspire much confidence in the election. (ANI)
