Bijnor, Feb 27 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has lashed out at the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) for failing to establish a connect with the common man.
Addressing a public rally in Bijnor, Gandhi questioned the roles of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav on how they had worked for the benefit of people in the state.
"Mayawati has been in power since the last five years but has she done anything for the state? Have you ever seen her visiting villages or connecting with the common man? Have you seen Mulayam Singh Yadav visit you villages and hear of your problems?
Have you seen both of them sit with farmers and drink water from their wells? They proclaim to improve the face of Uttar Pradesh, how can they do this unless and until they personally visit you and acquaint themselves with your problems?," he asked.
The failure in implementing MNREGA, has forced people to migrate to other states to earn their living, he claimed.
"The strength that Uttar Pradesh has, no other state has. The youth of the state are migrating to other states in search of jobs. And if you want employment, you have to migrate to other states, because employment is not available for the youth in Uttar Pradesh," he added.
Rahul Gandhi, who has become the face of the Congress Party in Uttar Pradesh, is leaving no stone unturned in drawing the attention of the voters towards his party.
Gandhi, who also has been holding public meetings and rallies across the state to influence potential voters, is banking on promises of progress and development if the Congress is returned to power in the state.
The sixth phase of assembly polls will be held in Uttar Pradesh on February 28,while the seventh and last phase, involving western and terai regions, will be held on March 3.
The Uttar Pradesh polls are being viewed as an opportunity for major political parties to re-establish their foothold in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.
A new 403-member state assembly will be elected in March. The poll results will broadly indicate trends for the 2014 general elections. (ANI)
