New Delhi, Feb 21 (ANI): Union Agriculture Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has said the Congress should work with the NCP to strengthen its political hold in Maharashtra state.
Pawar made the comments following the Congress party's poor show in the recently held state civic polls.
"In the next municipal polls or district council polls in Maharashtra, I think the Congress party and Nationalist Congress Party should collaborate closely. On the seats swept by Congress party, the NCP should cooperate so that both parties benefit," Pawar told the media here.
NCP leader R R Patil said the recent polls had witnessed unnecessary violence and could prove to be detrimental for the state.
"The elections in Maharashtra are always peaceful. However, this time there were some unprecedented acts of violence. The state administration has ordered a probe and I appeal to all regional political parties to cooperate with police authorities in order to achieve peaceful elections and refrain themselves from any sort of violence," Patil added.
