New Delhi, Feb.20 (ANI): The Congress party on Monday claimed that general secretary Rahul Gandhi's roadshow in Kanpur was planned well in advance, and added that the Uttar Pradesh Election Commission office had been duly notified about the event.
"Shri Rahul Gandhi's programme was made much earlier, and in writing, it has been communicated to the local election commission office in Uttar Pradesh, that there was neither a procession nor a rally. It was only a 'Jan Sampark' (meet the people) programme, and there was absolutely neither any intention nor actual violation on any manner of the model code for conduct or any other rule," party spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said.
Earlier, Kanpur's District Magistrate Hari Om had said that Rahul Gandhi had failed to adhere to the route proposed by the state Election Commission and added that he had also flouted the Section 144, which prevents the assembly of more than four people in the city. (ANI)
