Washington, Feb 20 (ANI): A top US military commander has said security challenges in Syria are different geographically and militarily to those in Libya, and added that intervention by NATO forces would be difficult.
"Syria is a very different challenge," General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff said in an interview with CNN.
"It's a different challenge in terms of the capability of the Syrian military. They are very capable," he added.
According to Xinhua, General Dempsey said Syria has "sophisticated, integrated" air defense system, and stressed that the country represents a "very different military problem."
He said that 'intervening in Syria would be a very difficult' thing to do.
General Dempsey said he thinks "the current path of trying to gain some international consensus is the proper path, rather than take a decision to do anything unilaterally," but he added that he would be prepared to provide military options to the US leaders. (ANI)
