Rio Ferdinand tweets support for 'Health Bill' petition

London, Sat, 18 Feb 2012 ANI

London, Feb 18 (ANI): Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand took to twitter to support Labour's campaign to stop reforms to the NHS.

The 31-year-old footballer, whose mum was a nurse, was backing a mammoth online petition against the Health and Social Care Bill, the Daily Star reported.

"Great work guys in crossing 100k for petition to Save NHS. Keep pressure to get 250k," Ferdinand tweeted.

Labour quickly picked up his endorsement of the Drop The Health Bill petition to his two million followers. But it came with a hitch.

Ed Miliband Tweeted back: "Thanks for support. I give you my word, if they go ahead, this will be a defining issue of the next election."

But he initially spelt the name of Ferdinand's account as "@riofredy5" instead of "@rioferdy5".

It was dubbed his second Twitterfail after he Tweeted about the death of Bob Holness and mistakenly referred to his TV show as "Blackbusters".

The e-petition calling for the Government's NHS plans to be scrapped has now reached 140,000 signatures which could force MPs to debate the issue in the Commons. (ANI)
