Mumbai, Feb 18 (ANI): The Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance retained power over Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), defeating the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alliance despite growing criticism of shoddy and increasingly overburdened infrastructure.
According to reports, the Shiv Sena-BJP coalition won 107 of the total 227 seats. The victory in the 227-member BMC came despite Congress forging an alliance with NCP for the first time for the civic body election, in order to avoid a split in secular votes.
The Congress secured 50 seats, while the NCP finished with just 14.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said the Congress Party was analyzing the reasons for the poor results ."We are analyzing what happened and what went wrong. So, I think it will not be proper to comment on the reasons for me without looking at the detail," he told the media here.Workers of hardline Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), which bagged 28 seats, celebrated the party victory at the residence MNS chief Raj Thackeray.
