London, Feb 17(ANI): Football's world governing body FIFA's head of security, Chris Eaton is set to resign from his post.
His exit will deal a blow to FIFA's reputation as it attempts to follow through on a pledge to tackle match fixing that Eaton set as a priority during his time in Zurich.
Eaton is likely to take up a post in sports security elsewhere and will leave just over two years after he joined FIFA, initially to counsel on security issues at the South African World Cup in 2010.
Last month, Eaton claimed that no level of football was untouchable, and added that even the Premier League was potentially under threat, The Telegraph reports.
"No league, not even the Champions League or English Premier League, is immune to the problem and that corruption affects every level of the game," Eaton had said.
"But it is not something FIFA alone can solve and governments across the world need to work together to fight back," he added.
Eaton raised the profile of the issue and has had significant success in it, working with law-enforcement organisations across Europe, in Africa and in the far east to lift awareness of match-fixing issues.
He has been outspoken throughout his time in the post, estimating the global value of the match-fixing industry at hundreds of billions of dollars, and warning that it represents a hugely attractive sideline for organised crime.
Eaton's methods, particularly his introduction of a strong law-enforcement approach into the usually diplomatic 'football family', and his candour on the subject have been something of a culture shock to FIFA (ANI)
