Candidates find innovative ways to file nominations in Uttar Pradesh

Kanpur, Tue, 14 Feb 2012 ANI

Kanpur/Bijnor, Feb 14 (ANI): Assembly polls candidates in Uttar Pradesh found unique methods to file nominations and woo supporters.

The elections in the state are seen as the biggest political battle in the country.

In Bijnor, a candidate named Zarina Begum, on her way to file nominations, stood in a huge bucket-like structure mounted on a horse-cart.

"We tried to portray our party symbol, which is a bucket in this rally. I want bucket-full of votes and love of the voters," she said.

Meanwhile, lawmaker Haji Irfan Solanki's obsession for number thirteen did not fail to catch media attention.

Solanki had number thirteen common in his mobile phone number, house number, vehicle registration numbers and even account number.

"You must have noticed that all my cars have number thirteen as their registration number. The number of my State Legislative Assembly members is also 213. And it is so unbelievable, but since the god is also with me, when I won the elections last time, the account number that I got was also thirteen. The flats I was allotted as a lawmaker is also thirteen. I believe that everything belongs to the god," he said.

The Uttar Pradesh polls are being viewed as an opportunity for major parties to re-establish their foothold in the country's fifth largest and most populous state. A new 403-member state assembly will be elected in March. The poll results will broadly indicate trends for the 2014 general elections.

The elections are being held in seven phases across 403 constituencies.

The results will be declared on March 6.(ANI)
