New Delhi, Feb 11 (ANI): Union Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal today apprised a group of Cabinet ministers headed by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh delineating the salient features of the Supreme Court judgment in 2G license cancellation case.
While speaking to mediapersons after the meeting, Sibal said: "'the Department of Communication and Information Technology made a presentation to a group headed by the Prime Minister in which the salient features of the (2G license cancellation) judgment were placed before the group."'
Sibal further said that the exercise was only to inform the Prime Minister and key Cabinet ministers, including the Home minister, Finance minister and Law minister, and not to seek any decision from the group or Dr. Singh.
"'The purpose of this exercise was to inform the Prime Minister and the group about the salient features of the judgment and the consequences of the judgment and on what basis the judgment has been rendered. It was an exercise in informing the group, and did not require or seek any decision from the Prime Minister and the group, that was not the intent of the exercise,"' added Sibal.
The Supreme Court had recently, cancelled all 122 licenses in the 2G spectrum allocation case during the tenure of the then telecom minister A Raja in 2008.
The ruling had come as a setback for Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh's government, which oversaw the sale of the licenses at below-market prices, costing the exchequer up to 36 billion dollars in lost revenues. (ANI)
