London, Feb 2(ANI): A Canadian woman, who was arrested on the suspicion of trying to smuggle Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's son to Mexico, has claimed that she was abused and tortured in prison.
"I have suffered physical, mental and emotional abuse and trauma, and my rights as a Canadian citizen have been violated. I could hardly breathe it hurt so much. I started to cry and they laughed at me. They ignored me and just put me into the cell. I thought I was going to die in there," The Telegraph quoted Cynthia Vanier, as saying.
Vanier was arrested in Mexico City in November for allegedly masterminding the plot to smuggle Saadi and his family from Libya as the Gaddafi regime collapsed.
She added that she had gone to Mexico with her husband where they owned an apartment, and were buying a second one to settle down after retirement.
She said the police had interrogated her about a business trip to Libya she had made in July, which according to her, was a fact-finding mission for a large Montreal-based engineering company.
She said the police asked: "who I was and accused me of being a terrorist. I was shocked and scared."
Vanier works as a negotiator for a Canadian consulting company. (ANI)
