London, February 1(ANI): Networking giant Cisco has claimed that the number of web-connected devices will grow more than four times by 2020.
The company also said more than 7 billion mobile devices would exist by 2015. The greater utilization of video would also lead to the Internet traffic quadrupling by 2014.
According to an estimate there are currently 14 billion devices approximately, which are connected to the Internet, The Telegraph reports.
However, 'machine-to-machine' communication, rather than mobile phones or laptops, is projected to play a bigger role in future.
Padmasree Warrior, Cisco's Chief Technology Officer expects home networking speeds to increase twenty-fold over the next decade, and that workers would more and more bring their own devices, such as phones or laptops, to work.
She also believes that despite of this posing potential security threats, the users were gradually becoming productive if allowed to use their own technology. (ANI)
