Kashmir facing cooking gas shortage as highway remains closed

Srinagar, Jan 28 (ANI): The short supply of Liquefied petroleum gas in the Kashmir valley has reached crisis levels following the shutdown of the national highway.

 

Divisional Commissioner (Kashmir) Asgar Samoon said five-kilogram LPG cylinders are being provided to residents on a ration basis to ease the problem.

 

"We have tried our best to ply lined up trucks on their respective routes, when our stocks got exhausted we directed all companies to give five kilogram cylinder on ration basis and they have started doing that. We have also borrowed around 3000 cylinders from the army," said Samoon.

 

Aquib Ahmad, a resident, on Saturday, said that the LPG supply doesn't last long, and adds to their problems.

 

Residents have asked the state government to improve the stock of liquefied gas cylinders before summer sets in.

 

Complaints have been registered against hoarders of LPG cylinders. (ANI)
