Adelaide, Jan 25(ANI): The South Australia Cricket Association (SACA) has commemorated veteran Australian all rounder Darren Lehmann by unveiling a bronze sculpture at his home ground, the Adelaide Oval.
Ken Martin, an artist from Port Lincoln has designed Lehmann's statue in a typical front foot position while clubbing a shot down the ground.
Lehmann expressed his delight on receiving the honor, but raised concern that there wasn't enough bronze in Australia to fill out his shape.
"They could have had a bit more weight on it, but they probably couldn't afford more bronze. I'm ecstatic with what SACA have done to have this at the oval, it's here for a lifetime," The Herald Sun, quoted Lehmann, as saying.
"It's a huge honour to have this, at my home of cricket. To be 22 yards away from one of my great mates Jason Gillespie. I don't think I'd hit him that far with that shot, but it looks really good, he's (Martin) done a great job," he added.is statue is the second such sculpture in a series commissioned to refurbish the Adelaide Oval, featuring the images of eight former cricketers and footballers.
Lehmann, who played 27 Test matches and 177 one-dayers for Australia along with 283 first-class matches for South Australia, is sited facing the first piece, the length of a cricket pitch from a rumbling Jason Gillespie. (ANI)
