Itanagar, Jan 24 (ANI): The five-day 'Yomgo River Festival-2012' was recently celebrated with a lot of pomp and gaiety in Arunachal Pradesh.
Held on the banks of the River Yomgo, the festival was aimed at raising awareness about Arunachal Pradesh's traditions and culture.
Forty-two cultural troupes showcased traditional Arunachali folk dances like the Tapu War Dance and the Ponung Dance during the annual tourism extravaganza. A textile exhibition was also set up to promote traditional handlooms of the state.
" This festival informs the youth about customs and traditions of Arunachal Pradesh. In this age of the Internet and mobile phones, the youth are distracted, but through such events we can inform them about the customs of their forefathers," said a visitor.
This was the sixth edition of the Yomgo River Festival. It was earlier known as the Siang River Festival.
The festival also aims to attract both national and foreign tourist to the region and facilitate their exploration of the paradise called Arunachal Pradesh. (ANI)
