Islamabad, Jan 22 (ANI): Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that the name of Pakistani-American businessman Mansoor Ijaz, the key person in the Memo Gate scandal, would be placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) if the Parliamentary Committee investigating the memo scandal orders so.
"I cannot disobey directives of the committee," the Daily Times quoted Malik, as saying.
Malik said the parliamentary committee has summoned Ijaz for his testimony and "if he does not appear before it, the committee can direct the government to put his name on the ECL".
Meanwhile, the US Embassy has said that it would not provide any kind of security to Ijaz when he arrives in Pakistan to testify on the same issue.
The US embassy spokesman said in a statement that Ijaz would travel to Pakistan as a common US citizen as per his own choice and will be treated like any other American citizen.
The Memo Gate scandal erupted after Ijaz claimed to have had delivered a controversial memo against the army to US Admiral Mike Mullen in May last year and accused the then ambassador Husain Haqqani of being involved in crafting it. (ANI)
