New Delhi, Jan.18 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has bagged the India Business Leader-CNBC TV 18 Award 2012 for his outstanding contribution to Indian business.
A Gujarat Bhawan release said today that Resident Commissioner Bharat Lal received the award on Modi from Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee at a function held here.
The release further said that the BJP Government in Gujarat under Modi's leadership has achieved an unprecedented double digit economic growth in spite of the global financial crisis.
Gujarat has registered a GDP growth of over 10 percent over past five years which is the highest growth rate among all the states in India, it said.
Since becoming chief minister in 2001, Modi has reoriented and reorganized the state government's administrative structure, embarked upon a massive exercise for rehabilitation of people, reconstruction of infrastructure, recreation of the business environment and rejuvenation of the traditional entrepreneurial spirit of Gujarat.
According to the Government of India's recently released survey, Gujarat accounts for 72 percent of the total employment rate, whereas rest of India stands at 28 percent.
Gujarat has received over 200 national and international awards in the last nine years. (ANI)
