New Delhi, Jan.17 (ANI): Union Minister for Human Resource Development and Telecom, Kapil Sibal today laid the foundation stone of a Community Centre at C-Block of Gandhi Vihar in Civil Lines Zone to be constructed at an approximate cost of Rs. 2.6 crore.
Addressing the gathering, Sibal said the problems of electricity, water, sanitation, school and health concern the common man and therefore there should be time-bound solution to these problems.
Education should not be costly. We have to build the nation, he said, pointing out that the process takes time.
Sibal said the foundation of a country gets strengthened only when each family prospers and the common man is happy.
Therefore, he said, we are always concerned and committed for a common man. Terming a Councillor as a Ground Representative, he said, they are linked with day-to-day affairs of their locality and they strive hard in solving the locals' problems.
The Union Minister and Chandni Chowk MP said Delhi has witnessed an immense transformation in various fields including transport, education and infrastructure in the past several years.
The whole scenario is changing, he added. Comparing the people's representatives at various levels as three wheels of an auto-rickshaw, Sibal said that the Congress party has MLAs and MPs as two wheels, while the third wheel in terms of Corporators should also be of the same party. Give us the third wheel too, we will move the auto-rickshaw faster, he added. He also said that we stand for bringing Goods and Services Tax (GST) for levying uniform taxes across the country, but are not been able to do so due to resistance from the BJP.
Leader of the Opposition, Jai Kishan Sharma praised the efforts of Mukesh Goel for his commitment towards carrying out development in the area. He said that Goel has been instrumental in raising the voices of the Common man including those residing in his locality at various forums of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
Goel said the community centre would be completed within a year. (ANI)
