Dharmapuri (Tamil Nadu), Oct.28 (ANI): Farmers and traders of Samanoor village in Tamil Nadu's Dharmapuri district make good profits from household business of betel nut cultivation.
"The price of betel nuts is rupees eight per kilogram. So, we get at least rupees 75,000 per year when we sell them in a wholesale market in town, and we sell it on the basis of size and fetch more profits accordingly. This is true that we get good profit for betel nut and betel nut business is more profitable than any other business," said Ramalingam, a shopkeeper
Farmers process betel nuts by cutting and boiling them before they are sold in the markets.
"We get the raw material from Salem and then cut it. After that we boil it and then we sell it in the market," said Begam, a worker
The demand for betel nuts is high in Tamil Nadu and other places like Salem, Coimbatore, Madurai, Chennai and even other states like Kerala and Karnataka. By Jaikumar (ANI)
