Senapati District (Manipur), Oct. 27 (ANI): A peace rally was organised on Tuesday in support of the ongoing Indo-Naga peace talks in Manipur's Senapati District.

The rally was organised under the aegis of the Naga HOHO, a chief tribal council.

It was held to press New Delhi to expedite the ongoing Indo-Naga peace process, deferring the proposed rally at Dimapur in Manipur.

G. Vashum, Joint Secretary, Naga HOHO, said that the detention or arrest of any Naga political leader by the Indian Government would hamper the peace process.

"Indo-Naga peace process has been there for last 13 years and slow pace is there in the peace process. The insincerity and commitment on the part of India and the wisdoms and the maturity in the political world seems to be lacking. So, this is for the expression of the other people that they want peace. They want the Indo-Naga peace to be expedited," said Vashum.

He also criticised the delay on India's part in taking forward the peace process.

"In terms of this delay that has taken place, I think India is, I mean everybody knows India, they have the tendency to delay. But, I find it very complex in this issue, funny in the sense that the Government of India is trying to delay itself is not to the gain but its loss. So, I think the best opportunity for both the party is that they must embrace this given opportunity and find a solution to it," added Vashum.

Thousands of people hailing from the Senapati district with the representatives of All Naga Students Association Manipur (ANSAM), Naga People's Organisation (NPO), Chandel Naga Peoples' Organisation (CNPO), Tangkhula Naga Long (TNL), Zeliangrong Boudee (ZB), Naga Women Union, Manipur (NWUM), participated in the rally.

The mass peace rally started from six different points of Senapati district, which headed towards the Senapati Local Ground, where a public meeting was held and the speakers urged for the speedy resolution of the issue.

On September 18, NSCN-IM General Secretary Thuingaleng Muivah along with NSCN-K General Secretary N. Kitovi Zhimomi and their FGN/NNC counterpart had signed a historic covenant for peace. (ANI)
