Spot-fixing: PCB chief Ijaz Butt cancels Cardiff trip after fresh disclosures

London, Mon, 06 Sep 2010 ANI

London, Sep 6(ANI): Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ijaz Butt cancelled his scheduled visit to Cardiff for the two Twenty20 matches against England following more revelations about the 'spot-fixing' scam looming over the national team.

According to reports, Butt, who is in London, was scheduled to be there for yesterday's Twenty20 match, but opted to stay back in London to handle the controversy.

British tabloid News of The World reported that batsman Yasir Hameed had "sensationally confirmed" its report that some Pakistan players had accepted money to fix aspects of the fourth Test match against England in London.

The tabloid said Hameed had told one of its reporters in a bar in Nottingham, central England, that some Pakistan players were fixing "almost every match".

"They've been caught. Only the ones that get caught are branded crooks. They were doing it (fixing) in almost every match. God knows what they were up to. Scotland Yard was after them for ages," News of The World quoted Hameed, as saying.

"It makes me angry because I'm playing my best and they are trying to lose," the 32-year-old added.

The Pakistan team is currently embroiled in a 150,000-pound 'spot-fixing' scandal, following which the International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended Test captain Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif. (ANI)
