Municipal Corporation of Delhi launches sanitation drive

New Delhi, Thu, 19 Aug 2010 ANI

New Delhi, Aug 19 (ANI): The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) launched an extensive sanitation drive here on Thursday to control the outbreak of water-borne diseases.ommissioner K.S. Mehra formally launched this programme from the New Delhi Railway Station.

The MCD workers sprayed insecticides on the railway tracks and cleaned the passages and drains between the railway tracks.

"We all are aware that the stagnant water bodies next to the railway tracks are inaccessible. So with this sanitation drive we will cover all the stagnant water bodies, so that the breeding of mosquitoes does not happen at such places. I would like to thank railways for this and it is a good initiative for our city," said Mehra.

The dengue menace continues as the city reported 548 cases of dengue in 2007, 1,312 in 2008 and 1,153 in 2009. (ANI)
