Oz Attorney-General files appeal against 'inadequate' Jayant Patel sentence

Brisbane, Mon, 19 Jul 2010 ANI

Brisbane, July 19 (ANI): Attorney General and Minister for Industrial Relations Cameron Dick has lodged an appeal in the Court of Appeal in Brisbane against the "inadequate" sentences imposed on controversial Indian-origin surgeon Dr. Jayant Patel for manslaughter and grievous bodily harm.

"The grounds of this appeal are that these sentences are inadequate in all the circumstances and fail to reflect the gravity of the offences. The court will set the date for the appeal," the Courier Mail quoted Dick, as saying.

"I will not be making any further comment as the matter is now before the courts," he added. (ANI)
