'Wimbledon has given me something to focus on', says Murray

London, June 24(ANI): British tennis star Andy Murray has admitted that the pressure of playing at Wimbledon has helped him focus on his game.

Murray has not been in good form since losing January's Australian Open final to Roger Federer, but looked to have rediscovered it during his first-round win against Czech Republic's Jan Hajek.

The 23-year-old will now play Finland's Jarkko Nieminen in the second round on Thursday.

"In a lot of ways, the last few months has not helped. I would've liked to have played more matches. Wimbledon has given me something to really focus on. It's good to have that pressure back," The Sun quoted Murray, as saying.

"It may sound cheesy, but it should be a privilege to go on court and have that pressure, be nervous and have expectation. It's something that during the last few months I might not have put on myself or maybe have not had."

"Now I feel it's back. I enjoyed the match against Jan and will try to do the same on Thursday," he added.

He further said that the Queen's presence for the game would not make a difference, as he is focused to put those sort of things at the back of his mind.

"I've played in front of some famous people before although this is different. Even on my debut at Wimbledon, when I looked up at the Royal Box the first time I played on Centre Court, Sean Connery was there, Jonathan Edwards was watching, a lot of great athletes and sports people," Murray said.

"There have been a lot of occasions where I've played in front of famous people and some I've looked up to. I enjoy these occasions," he added. (ANI)
