Coimbatore, June 21 (ANI): Ahead of the World Classical Tamil Conference, 2010, security has been beefed up here to prevent any untoward incident.
Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu, Lathika Saran has assured that no stone will be left unturned for security.
"We have deployed more than 10,000 policemen for the Conference and apart from this we are also mobilising forces from the neighbouring districts. And in addition to that, we are also putting into service, the security personnel from Coimbatore district. For the past two days, we are also frisking the vehicles, which are passing from the district. And apart from our force, more than 4000 NSS volunteers and 1000 NCC volunteers with home guards have been put into service, "said Saran.
The five-day conference, scheduled to commence on Wednesday (June 23) in Coimbatore, is expected to witness participation of Tamil leaders from Sri Lanka, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, United States, Europe, etc..
Security and other arrangements have been reviewed by Deputy Chief Minister Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin.
The World Tamil Conference is organised by the government of Tamil Nadu that aims at connecting Tamil people across the world.
The Conference, this year, will focus on Dravidians art, culture, literature and civilisation. Various Tamil scholars and linguists will participate.
This will be the ninth Tamil Conference. (ANI)
