Gandhinagar (Gujarat), June 18 (ANI): Minister of State for Food Processing and Industries Subodh Kant Sahai on Friday said India displays enormous potential in food processing industry, adding that India has to reposition itself in terms of productivity, commercialization and value addition in quite a few promising sectors.
"India can engage in large scale development of food processing industry and can notch a niche in the world economic scenario," said Sahai speaking at the inauguration of the Investors' Meet and a training-cum-Awareness Programme on prospects of Food Processing Industry in Gujarat, organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI).
Sahai further said there are umpteen investment opportunities in the food processing sector, which include cold chain projects, value added centres for agri products, fresh produce exports by air and sea, marine export, farm implements and seeds, organic farming and many other unexploited areas so far.
"There is need for more trained and competent entrepreneurs who can set up their own businesses and look beyond the existing processes and take innovative ideas and challenges ahead in the sector," said Sahai.
"Such workshops and training programmes would give immense exposure to young and prospective entrepreneurs, which the country needs the most," he added.
Minister of State for Power Baratsinh Solanki, who was also present on the occasion, said the Indian Food Processing Industry is touching the domestic and global markets in a remarkable manner.
"India will be viewed as the global food factory in the next ten years, because of the large scale development of the food processing industry," said Solanki. (ANI)
