Ahmedabad, Dec 17 (ANI): Gujarat Government has taken up rigid security measures in the wake of the reported intention of certain militant groups to target places of religion in the region.
Vehicles passing through many thoroughfares of the main cities as well as the highways are being strictly monitored by the police.
The traffic police were seen paying extra attention and a close look at vehicles, while police personnel in uniform were seen frisking pedestrians.
Reportedly, as per intelligence inputs couple of prominent religious places in the state are on the hit list of ultras.
Among the targeted spots are Somnath and Dwarka temples
The State government has assured the people that strict measures are being taken to ensure overall security.
"Somnath, Dwarka, Ambaji and Akshardham temples are renowned and known worldwide. These happen to be the prestige of Gujarat and their security is our top most priority. Whatever procedures are necessary, have been taken by the Gujarat Police," said S.S Khandwawala, Director General of Police, Gujarat.
He also urged the people to cooperate with the authorities and keep a watch in crowded places for any activity of suspicion.
"People should keep their eyes open and should look around the surroundings. If they find anything unusual, they should immediately report to the police. By merely doing so, a lot many mishap and accidents can be avoided," Khandwawala added. (ANI)
