Bhubaneshwar, Nov 24(ANI): Legislative Assembly of Orissa was adjourned on Tuesday following an uproar between the opposition and ruling parties over yesterday's incident in which several teachers were baton charged by policemen in Bhubaneshwar.
Earlier on Monday, thousands of teachers had staged a protest in Bhubaneshwar demanding regularization of employment in different parts of the state, when the agitated protestors tried to break through the police cordon, forcing the latter use water canons to control them.
The police also had to resort to baton charge injuring hundreds of teachers.
The opposition members in the legislative assembly demanded exclusive discussion on the issue, and said that the teachers deserved their due respect.
"Seeing such unfortunate event, I am unable to understand what the Government is doing. The Government thinks that we have received all the votes, hence we are victorious, and we will be here for the next four years. They should come out of this misconception. The way these teachers were beaten, no one behaves like that even with the animals," leader of opposition Bhupinder Singh said. (ANI)
