Khagaria (Bihar), Oct 8 (ANI): One person died and 21 others were injured when the Amritsar-Katihar-AmrapaIi Express derailed in Bihar's Khagaria district on Wednesday.
The actual cause of the train mishap is unknown, but the officials attribute to damage in tracks because of heavy rains.
"It seems that due to the heavy rains, the mud has slipped around the bank and because of which the track has been damaged leading to derailing of the engine. The actual cause will only be known after the enquiry," said RK Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Central-East Railways.
The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Puran Singh, a resident of Chainpur village in Purulia district of the state.
A woman of around 35 years, Shanti Devi has sustained grievous head injuries. She is last said to be in critical condition.
Injured were relieved after being administered first aid by the authorities.
The mishap has hit the traffic on the line. Around five passenger trains have been cancelled. Besides, route of 15 trains has been diverted. (ANI)
