Shirdi, Sept 28 (ANI): Hundreds of devotees paid homage at a temple dedicated to Sai Baba, on the occasion of his Mahasamadhi Day in Shirdi in Maharashtra.
They also took out a 'palki' procession on the occasion.
According to a legend, a nameless pauper took shelter in a mosque in Shirdi village, but never asked for food or water and hardly spoke. Curious villagers took pity on the feeble and sparsely clothed man and donated fruits and clothes. But to their surprise, the "Saint" shared the offerings with destitutes and animals.
The man's gestures and his lifestyle drew immense respect and awe amongst the sick and elderly, who found solace in his sermons.
Soon "Baba" and "Sai" became words synonymous with the saint's name.
The revered saint preached his principle of love and faith among all his disciples irrespective of caste and creed.
Sai Baba died on Dussehra day in October 1918. (ANI)
