Ahmedabad, July 28 (ANI): People in Gujarat's Mangrol city are forced to use boats after stepping out of their homes, as the floodwater has marooned the city leading to massive water logging.
Heavy rainfall throughout this week has inundated many low-lying areas in this port city, submerging many houses and other buildings.
"For the last three days we are draining water into the sea but the amount of water is not getting less and this is causing a heavy damage," said Madha Bhai, a local.
The state administration is doing its utmost to provide relief to the flood hit locals. Machines have also been installed in various areas to flush out floodwater.
Ashwini Kumar, District Magistrate- Junagadh district said that adequate arrangements were made for those affected in the relief camps.
"The people who are staying in the low lying areas have been shifted to the relief camps and the adequate provision of food have been made for them. In the villages where the there is water logging we are strengthening the sewage system there so that it drains out," said Kumar.
Floods have ravaged many districts in Gujarat and over 3,000 families have been shifted to safer places in Junagadh, Porbandar and Jamnagar districts of the state.
Agricultural lands with crops have been badly damaged. The overall losses caused by the heavy downpour are estimated to be of millions of rupees. (ANI)
