Here's how Zika virus strips immune cells of their identity

New Delhi, Sep 11 (ANI): According to a recent study the body’s cells that protect it from infection are infected by Zika virus. Zika virus particularly infects Macrophages, cells that protect body from infection. For pregnant women, the virus is particularly threatening as it can stunt neonatal brain development leading to babies born with abnormally small heads, a condition known as microcephaly. The virus can also attack brain cells of adults. A method to sort Zika virus has been developed by a team of researchers. In line with this, the researchers have made a mechanism for sorting the virus as tagged (infected) and untagged (uninfected) human macrophages.
