Vaishno Devi or Mata Rani is a renowned temple situated in Katra, 61 kms away from Jammu. Every year nearly 8 million devotees come to its threshold. It is a place of pilgrim for Hindus though devotees from all around the world and every religion come here seeking blessings.
The holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi is at a height of 5,300 ft. It is a cave in a hill with images of three deities: Maha Kaali, Maha Lakshmi and Maha Saraswati. Devotees have to cover 13 kms of the way on foot. However there are now facilities of Auto, horses and other facilities that take you to the top. Helicopter facility is also available that take you a helipad on the top.
The middle halt of Vaishno Devi is called Ardha Kumari. Bhairo Baba, 2 kms up from Vaishno Devi, is also visited by devotees to complete the pilgrimage.

Jammu is the main entrance for tourist traveling to Vaishno Devi. From here they take buses or private vehicles to reach Katra and start their journey.
