Historic Temples in Jammu

Jammu is also known as City of Temples because it is home to many historical temples of Hindu deities and also Dargahs of Muslim saints. Raghunath temple of Jammu is the most famous and prestigious place that sees millions of footfall every year.

Raghunath Temple, Jammu:

Ragunath temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Lord Rama and various Hindu other deities and was built in 1857. It is situated in the middle of the city and is the largest temple complex. It consist seven shrines and has Mughal touch in its architecture. The inner side of temple is gold plated. The temple also has a Sanskrit library that houses some of the rare scriptures, manuscripts and texts.

Ranbireshwar Temple, Jammu:

Ranbireshwar temple was built by Maharaja Ranbir Singh in the year 1883 and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is situated on the Shalimar Road of Jammu. The temple has two halls, one dedicated to Ganesha and the other to Kartikeya.

This temple also has a 7.5-feet tall Shiva lingam placed in the middle of the temple. It is made of black marbled stone.

Peer Kho Temple, Jammu:

Peer Kho Cave temple is located on the bank of river Tawi. It is believed that Jamvant meditated in this cave. It is 3 kms away from the city.

Mahamaya Temple, Jammu:

Just behind the Bahu Fort is famous Mahamaya Temple dedicated to Goddess Mahamaya. It is a famous tourist spot of Jammu.

Panch Peer Dargah, Jammu:

Panch Peer Dargah is located on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. The Panch Peer Dargah is famous for five Peers who once lived here and dedicated themselves to meditation.

Bawey Mata Temple, Jammu:

Bawey Mata temple is inside the Bahu fort and is dedicated to Mahamaya. It is also known as Mahakali Mandir.
