The culture of Shimla is very unique and their lifestyle is traditional. The people of Shimla are commonly called Shimlaites, which is basically a cosmopolitan crowd with people of various social, economic and cultural backgrounds living and mixing with one another's cultural milieu and helping to transgress the so called specific cultural barrier. A large variety of festivals and ceremonies are held in Shimla with different cultural, social and religious roots. Among the native cultural auras that dominate the culture of the city is the Pahari or high mountain culture the supreme expression of which is the song and dance style called Natti in the local language. Shimla Summer Festival held by the local administrative authority every year during the peak tourist season is the most well-known and popular festival that is attended by the local as well as people coming from all around India and the world and considered to be the biggest cultural event in Shimla. Other festivities of diverse ethnic, religious and cultural aura include Christmas at the Shimla churches, Ramnavami, Dussera, theater festival at the Gaiety Theatre, etc.
