Delhi preserves some of the oldest artifacts and items in its various historical museums. Being the national capital, Delhi, expectedly, has a large number of museums. All the museums of Delhi are home to some or other things that historical important.
From philately to arts and crafts to natural history items to important manuscripts to paintings and to many others, all are preserved and put on display for the tourists coming in to Delhi.

National Museum:

National Museum savors articles and artwork of historical importance and exhibits more than 200,00 materials of prehistoric time. It was built in 1949. National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation and Musicology established in 1983, which works as Deemed University is also present within the museum.

National Gallery of Modern Art:

National Gallery of Modern Art museum was established in the year 1954. It has preserved Indian contemporary art, collection of paintings of historical importance. Paintings displayed here include 19th - 20th century paintings of British artists.

National Museum of Natural History:

An institution devoted to environmental education opened in 1978. Displaying a life size model of dinosaur in front of the museum and have three galleries inside it. The museum introduces the visitors to natural history, ecology and environment with plenty of examples from nature and various aspects of conservation of forest, wildlife, land, water and air. This museum also has a large collection of stuffed animals and birds.
Opening and Closing time of National Museum of Natural History: 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. It remains closed on Monday.
National Science Center:

National Science Center has 8 floors and displays science and history of architecture related items. Heritage and Dinosaur gallery, Human Biology gallery, Fun Science Library are some of the galleries of this Museum.
Opening and Closing time of National Science Center: 10:00 am - 5.00 pm, it remains closed only on Holi and Diwali.
Nehru Memorial Museum and Planetatarium

This Museum was originally the house of late Jawaharlal Nehru but was later changed into a museum. It has preserved newspaper clippings and photographs that show India Independence Movement. Replica of the British crown and books for children are also kept on display.
However the special attraction of the museum is the exhibition of pictures and belongings of Nehru.

Tibet House Museum

Tibet House Museum was made to display and to tell people about the rich culture of Tiber.
Everything put on display from the paintings to different objects all display the day-to-day life, art and rituals of Tibet people. A collection of painted scrolls depicting the life of Buddha, prayer objects and musical instruments are put on display here.
Tibet House has a Library and an emporium.

Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum, Delhi

Indira Gandhi Memorial was originally the residence of late Indira Gandhi but was later transformed into a museum.
Rare collection of photographs of Nationalist movements are preserved and put on display here.
Photographs and belongings of Indira Gandhi are also put on display. Saree that was woven by Jawahar Lal Nehru for her wedding day is the special attraction.

National Rail Museum

The National Rail Museum has a collection of over 100 real size exhibits of Indian Railways having vintage rail engines and carriages. It also has a mini station within the compound that is called Museum junction.
National Rail Museum aims at informing the people about the rich history of Indian Railways. Some of the coaches put on display includes that of Prince of Wales Saloon, built in 1875, Maharaja of Mysore's Saloon built in 1899 and Fairy Queen, built in 1855.

Sangeet Natak Academy Museum

Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the mastermind behind Sangeet Natak Academy. It was inaugurated in January 1953.
Sangeet Natak Academy has a large archive of audio and videotapes, photographs and films. There are regular workshops and seminars that are carried out in Sangeet Natak Academy.
Sangeet Natak Academy has a library and a gallery just of the various musical instruments.

Zakir Hussain Memorial Museum

Zakir Hussain memorial has put on display photographs, souvenirs and memorabilia related to the life of Dr. Zakir Hussain, third President of India. Awards given to him including Bharat Ratna awarded to him in 1963, Padma Vibhushan Award in 1954 has also been displayed here.
