Morocco: Native Land of the Berbers in Africa

Morocco remains the native land of Berbers since the 2nd millennium BC. In 46AD Rome annexed Morocco. After the decline of Roman Empire the Vandals annexed Morocco in the 5th century. The Arabs invaded in circa 685 and introduced Islam. In 711 Berbers joined Spain and revolted against the Arabs. In 1086, Berbers took control of large areas of Moorish Spain until they were expelled in the 13th century. Portugal and Spain invaded Morocco during the time of colonial expansion. They unified the various tribal communities ruling different parts of Morocco. In 1660 Morocco came under the control of the Alawite dynasty. It is a sherif dynasty that descended from Prophet Muhammad and still rules Morocco. In 1860, Spain occupied northern Morocco. In 1912 France colonialised the Morocco. In 1956 Morocco after decade of independence struggle became an independent nation.

Geographical Information on Morocco:
Morocco is located at the coast of the Atlantic. Morocco shares its borders with Algeria from the east, Spain from the north and Mauritania from the south.
The climate of Morocco varies according to season and region. The coast has warm Mediterranean climate and often changed by southwest trade winds. Inland areas of Morocco experience hotter, drier, continental climate. In the south of the country the weather is very hot and dry throughout most of the year.

Spices are used widely in Moroccan food ingredients like saffron mint, olives, oranges and lemons are key ingredients. Chicken is widely eaten apart from beef and lamb. Couscous is the most famous Moroccan dish along with pastilla, tajine, and harira. The most popular drink is green tea with mint.

The economy of Morocco is largely based on agriculture and its dependency on monsoon sometimes hampers its productivity. In order to overcome these difficulties the government of Morocco pursues reform, liberalization, and modernization aimed at stimulating growth and creating jobs. With the help of foreign investors like the World Bank and the Paris Club of creditors government established various heavy infrastructures. Morocco also has liberalized its rules for oil and gas exploration and granted concessions to many public services in exploration. In January 2006 the bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States eliminated 95% tariff trade in consumer and industrial products for nine years.
