K J Yesudas possesses the golden voice with which he enchants the heart of listeners in each of his concerts perform in and outside India. He is one of the foremost and most mature singers as well as music composer, noted mostly in south India. Yesudas was born in 1940 in Kochi, Kerala in a lower middle class family. His incessant will for music and song from early childhood had compelled his guardians to arrange better environment for his music education. Yesudas showed excellent skill in music from his tender age that also inspired his family, and near and dear ones to let him proceed with his natural skill. He made debut as a playback singer through the Malayalam film ?Kalpadukal? in 1961. His song in the movie met with an unprecedented popularity. From this time onwards there was no looking back for this versatile singer. His fame grew with success one after another. His pitch of voice and unusual touch of temperaments in songs has touched the heart of all people. His contribution to the world of music is phenomenon. He is mostly noted in South India and has also a little contribution to Hindi film industry. In playback singing alone, Yesudas has sung more than 40,000 songs for many languages viz. Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Bengali, Malayalam, Gujarati, Oriya, Marathi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tulu, Russian, Arabic, Latin and English. Yesudas has won innumerous titles, honours, awards, national awards, including Padma Bhushan, Padma Sri and many more. He was also presented with an honorary award by UNESCO for "Outstanding Achievements in Music and Peace" at the "Music for Peace" event in Paris.
Kochi, April 23 (IANS) Navodaya Appachan, known as the biggest showman of the Malayalam film industry, died at a private hospital here Monday night after battling cancer for a long time. He was 81.
