Biju Pattnaik is much known not for his activities in Indian or Orissa politics but for his unforgettable and adventurous role in Indian Independence movement and in rescue work of Indonesian President and cooperating Indian army during the war between India and China. When the rule of Bijayananda (or affectionately called Biju) Pattnaik in the soil of Orissa, an eastern state of India commenced, the tale of poverty, drought, and underdevelopment started fading away owing to the developed influence of this great man and many welfare programmes undertaken by him for the advancement of the state. Only for this ace politician and adventurous man Odisha is proud in national and international scenario. Born in 1916 in the soil of Orissa Biju Pattnaik emerged as the most influential politician of the time and freedom fighter. He had been the chief minister of his home state twice in 1961 and 1991. Being influenced by the great political leaders of his time Biju Babu dedicated himself for the development of his state. Most of the industrial and commercial hubs found in Odisha are the contributions of this diplomat. This exceptional patriot of the motherland had dedicated himself for the overall advancement of his state and did everything for the better living of the denizens. Biju Pattnaik has established Kalinga Prize; an award for the intellectuals having excellence in the field of science given by the UNESCO. For his excellence in politics and adventurous work, Biju Babu became the recipient of Bhumi Putra (son of the soil) honour from the government of Indonesia.
