The state of Bihar has its great historic past that shows you the golden heritage age and rich culture and it has remained a land of fairs and festivals. The Sonepur cattle fair is one of those popular cultural festival, which is the biggest fair of its kind in the entire Asia continent. The city of Sonepur, which is situated on the confluence of Ganges and Gandak, is the famous on the world map for its famous cattle fair(similar to Pushkar Cattle fair of Rajasthan), which is popularly known as Harihar Kshetra Mela.
The Sonepur fair is held on Kartik Poornima, the full moon day in the month of November every year. The major significance of the Sonepur cattle fair is that all breeds of various cattle and animals including Persian horses, rabbits and elephants, horses present in the fair on various stalls, which attracts visitors. Various species of birds and poultry are also the major tourist attractions of the fair, which enchants the people form various part of India as well as abroad.
