Panchkula (Haryana), May 15 (IANS) In a broad daylight heist, five armed young men looted over Rs.1.1 million from a nationalised bank in a busy market place here Friday, police said.
According to the police, five young men, who were communicating in Hindi and Punjabi, entered the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Sector 20 here Friday afternoon and looted the cash on gunpoint.
'The forensic team has been called to examine the spot so that we can get some vital clues about the robbers. They came in a green Scorpio vehicle. We have sealed all the entry and exit points of Panchkula,' a police officer said.
'One of the youth was wearing a turban and all of them wore gloves. Sketches of the accused will be made and circulated at the earliest.'
Krishan Lal, an eyewitness who works in the bank, told IANS: 'All of the accused were carrying guns. Two of them even fired in the air inside the bank premises which created panic among those present. They told the cashier to handover the entire cash to them.'
'Suddenly, they heard the siren of a police control room van, which was passing that area, and hurriedly ran away,' Lal added.
