New Delhi, May 12 (ANI): BJP candidate from the Pilibhit seat Varun Gandhi has complained to the Election Commission against the supporters of his rival BSP candidate Ganga Charan Rajput for allegedly distributing liqour and money ahead of polling.
"We have learnt from reliable sources that liqour is being carried and distributed from trucks in violation of the election code of conduct," Varun Gandhi's personal secretary Anand Chaudhary submitted a complaint to the poll panel on Tuesday.
The liqour was illegally stored in the house of Bachchu Lal Verma of Barkheda village in Pilibhit, Gandhi's complaint read.
"This liqour is being given to voters as an incentive to influence them to their side," Chaudhary said.
Gandhi's office has faxed the copies of the complaint to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer, Returning Officer, Pilibhit and Superintendent of Police.
Gandhi had also received reports of money being distributed to voters allegedly by supporters of BSP candidate Ganga Charan Rajput, Chaudhary said.
The BSP government in the state had not taken any action despite complaints, he added. (ANI)
