Security stepped up on the Indo-Nepal border

Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), July 30 (ANI): Security has been stepped up on the Indo- Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh Gorakhpur district in the wake of recent bomb blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad.

Army personnel accompanied by sniffer dogs are doing constant patrolling to monitor the movements in the border area.

"The border police came and asked us to inform them if we were troubled in any way by any body. But, as of now I do not have any such problem," said Manowar, a resident.

The intelligence wing has been alerted to prevent any untoward incidents on the Indo- Nepal border.

"We have 47 border outposts on the 275 kilometre border area with Nepal that falls in Uttarakhand. After the blasts, we have asked them to be more careful and alert. We have also asked our intelligence to be more active so that if they spot any unusual activity, they should inform us and we will take action accordingly," said S. Bandhopadhyaya, Director General of Police, Border Security Force, Ranikhet Division.

Landlocked Nepal is ringed by India on three sides and by the Himalayas in the north.

The border area has always been vulnerable for elements engaged in antinational activities. (ANI)
