Sep 14: The news came as a surprise to the Indian cricket team, management and millions of fans when they first heard that Rahul Dravid has resigned as Indian cricket team captain. The secretary of Indian board Niranjan Shah first confirmed the news that Dravid has asked the board authority to relieve him from the captaincy as he wants to concentrate on his own performance.
Indian cricket team in Durban taking part in the ongoing Twenty20 World Cup championship has expressed shock over David’s decission. Many senior players have also surprised over Dravid’s step-down as skipper of Indian team as he is regarded as one of the successful captain so far.
Niranjan Shah, secretary of the Indian board, said Dravid met Sharad Pawar, the board president, in New Delhi yesterday. "He expressed his desire to step down as captain of the Indian team and requested that he should not be considered as captain for the coming Australia series," Shah said. Dravid wants a new person for the job, added Shah.
Talking to Newstrack India correspondent in New Delhi, the chairman of selection of committee, Dilip Vengaskar said, “I even surprised to hear this news but it’s his personal decission and board will take the next step after meeting on Tuesday”.
Board president Sarad Pawar said, “Dravid had spoke to me earlier and again on yesterday for his wish and hence we should respect his decission. However, Dravid will extend his full cooperation to his successor.”
In the mean time the board has decided to take the issue in the next meeting schedule to take place on 18 th of this month.
Looking at Dravid’s career as Indian cricket team captain since he took over Ganguly two years back, he is hold as one of the successful captain. Under his belt India played 25 Test of which the team won 8 including the series against Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh and the recent one in England.
Reportedly Dravid was under criticism since the World Cup debacle performance along with his own performance in Test matches.

Will Ganguly be given a chance and the Indian Cricket Board give a Hero style send off like the one what Steve Waugh had?
Humans make mistake lets forget the wrong what Ganguly made (I am not sure).
