Protestor needs to practice autism

New Delhi, Sat, 26 Jul 2008 Vikash Ranjan

The logic is out of consideration when public properties are made target in any clash. To attract the attention of the government through violent means of occupation is just an act of airhead persons. Damaging public and private property, killing people through activities like throwing bomb in a crowded market or any other public place by any brainless community on false pretensions that the deceasing people belong to rival community and not ours, is nothing but a baseless thought.

Once a sword is raised, it takes life of people-innocent or guilty; once a bomb is blasted, it kills people; it does not see friend or foe, one community or the other'.

In the land of Mahatma Gandhi, known for his struggle with the mighty Britishers by a non-violent means, everybody today is using violent means to get their demand forcefully sealed by the government or other bodies.

The open display of swords, forced shutdown of shops, vandalisation of public property, stone pelting, petrol bombing and killing of innocent people are all the destructive tools used by the violent mob.

What kind of protest is this in a democratic country like ours? India, which trumpets that it is the largest democracy in the world with the inherent right of the people to protest, has never ever advocated for the violent means of protest.

The recent bloodshed protest manoeuvred by two distinct communities-Dera Sachha Sauda and Sikhs is the stark illustration of violent remonstration in the name of religion and faith.

Sometimes, people unintentionally and ignorantly become a part of the bloodshed violence, but most of the times innocent minds are made victims by the leaders who deliberately engineers such kind of violent activities to fulfill their selfish motives.

The Jammu and Kashmir violence over land transfer to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board though initially was a handiwork of handful of filthy minds, but later it was cradled and nourished by a number of political leaders belonging to different parties to soothe their political interests.

After losing the trust vote in Parliament, the oppositions, outraged by defeat, here Rajiv Pratap Rudy-a BJP spokesperson through his provocative statement stimulated party workers to carry out violence against the BJP legislators who cross voted against the party. Result? The house and property of BJP MPs was badly damaged by the party workers.

Protest executed by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena workers on the provocation of its leader Raj Thackeray against the north Indians residing in different parts of Maharashtra is the perfect example of leader generated violent protests.

A number of peaceful ways-silent procession, pickets, demonstration, flag march protest, candlelight protest, hunger strike, signature campaign-can be adopted by a person/community for his voice to be heard by the concerned authority.

“Protestors” along with the “brain child” of protest indulged in violent means need to practice autism. They need to look into their conscience. Pause before doing or manoeuvring any such practice! Think about your family!

I believe you would think hundred times before indulging in such heinous crime…
