Sep 09: Indian Hockey team continuing its dream run in Asia Cup Hockey tournament today defeated defending champion South Korea with an emphatic 7-2 victory. It is a historic win that can be seen as a renaissance in the national game of India.
India who did not loss a single match in the whole tournament also emerged as victorious by scoring as many as 57 goals in its long 7-match run for the cup. South Korean team which is considered as one of the favorite from the very beginning of the tournament only managed to put 2 goals in his credit against a strong defence of India.
As both teams are well in mark as far as their game plan is concerned no one was actually expecting a win with such a margin. Shivendra Singh was the first to take India into advantage but then Rajpal Singh scored two goals paving the match to India’s way.
Prabhjot Singh continuing his good form strikes the fourth one when India led 4-1. But at the end of the play the scored turned to 7-2 in which Tushar Khandekar, Ignace Tirkey, Sunil Ming scored one goal each.
Baljit Singh awarded Man-of-the-match who came off with three superb saves. Prabhjot and Rajpal scored two goals each. Prabhjot scored a total of 15 goals in the tournament.
India scored three in the first half and four in the second with a stellar performance to defeat Doha Asian Game Champion and 2000 Olympics silver medalist South Korea.
In fact in the whole tournament it is India’s attacking play that was really missing from last couple of years and instead of depending much on penalty corners, Indian players displayed some brilliant field goals. It was a proper coordination among players that helps in keeping the ball most of the time and then converting them into goals one by one.
Earlier in the league match India had also defeated S. Korea by 3-2 and in semifinal match against Japan India registered a 4-1 victory. This unheard performance certainly puts India into a new phase of Indian hockey.
Chak de India !!!
